The history of the Romantik Seehotels Sonne is closely linked with Küsnacht on Lake Zurich. Documentary evidence of the “Wirtschaft zur Sonne” or “Sun Inn” dates back to 1641, when the husband and wife Hans-Ulrich Alder and Anna Barbara Schädler took over the inn and tavern rights from two gentlemen from Zurich under a feudal agreement. After the transfer of the inn to their daughter Elisabeth and her husband Heinrich Guggenbühl, the hotel on the right bank of Lake Zurich remained in the hands of the Guggenbühl family for over two centuries.
In 1991, the hotel passed into the ownership of a Küsnacht family. Since July 2023, Harald Raab has been managing the Sonne with a lot of heart and soul, the highest level of competence and committed, well-trained employees. The careful cultivation of tradition and values is the focus of the Sonne team. It is a great incentive for us to continue our daily service with enthusiasm in the same direction.
In the Romantik Seehotel Sonne you will find paintings and sculptures by notable Swiss artists such as Alois Carigiet, Augusto Giacometti, Bernhard Luginbühl and Albert Manser: the love of art is just one of our hotel's living traditions.
But stars of the international art world such as Julian Schnabel and Andy Warhol are also represented with original works, attracting guests from all over the world to our hotel. This continues another tradition of the past, when regular guests at the Seehotel Sonne included the German author Thomas Mann and the founder of psychoanalysis, C.G. Jung.
Of course, you don't have to be a celebrity to enjoy art, so we wish you lots of pleasure and joy as you discover the variety of works at the Seehotel Sonne!
We'll be delighted to help you on your way and give you a guided tour – just ask at the reception!
